The Scent of Sovereignty: Why My Kitchen is the Front Line of My Financial Rebellion

I was in my kitchen this weekend, and for the first time in a long time, the music was louder than my anxiety. I was dancing, I was focused, and I was doing something that once felt like a symbol of struggle: I was baking bread and making cheese from scratch.

As I kneaded the dough and looked at the Applewood Smoked Cheddar on my counter, a memory from my childhood in Winnipeg tried to pull me back. It was a memory of the poverty cycle—a time when homemade wasn't a trendy lifestyle choice; it was a necessity for survival. Back then, we made things from nothing because there was literally nothing else in the cupboard.

For years, that memory was a trigger. It represented scarcity, lack, and the feeling of being trapped by circumstances. But this weekend, the script finally flipped. I didn't feel the scarcity of the past; I felt the Sovereignty of the present.

The buns that I baked for the homemade burgers and cheese that I made.

The CHEESE I MADE … mindblown

The 6.2% Reality Check

We are living through a time where the system feels heavier than ever. Between December 2024 and December 2025, food inflation in Canada jumped by 6.2%. For most people, that number is a source of panic—another brick in the wall of a world that feels increasingly unaffordable.

In my old life, that 6.2% would have been a life sentence. It would have meant more administrative drag, more survival mode, and less hope. But as a CEO who has spent years getting healthy and reclaiming my life, I see that number differently now.

I didn't bake that bread because I was forced to by inflation. I baked it because I am a strategist who chooses quality, health, and peace. Intentionality is the ultimate antidote to inflation. When you choose to create rather than just consume, you aren't just saving money—you are reclaiming your power.

Rising Above the Legacy Math

For a long time, I let numbers define me. I looked at high-interest car loans or the years spent in a consumer proposal as marks against my character. But standing in my kitchen, I realized those numbers—no matter what they once were—are now just Legacy Math.

In my mind, these hurdles are already in the past. I’ve already engineered the way around them.

  • I have mastered the math of high-interest hurdles.

  • I have turned the final steps of my financial recovery into a predictable and automated process.

  • I have secured a solid foundation for my home and my business that allows me to look toward the horizon.

These figures are no longer my identity; they are data points I’ve already moved beyond. I’m no longer fighting to survive systemic poverty; I am thriving in spite of it.

The Mission: Ending the "Brain Fog Tax"

At Remote Returns, this is exactly what I help my clients achieve. Most creative entrepreneurs and coaches are paying a Brain Fog Tax—a constant mental drain caused by financial chaos and legacy money trauma. They feel like victims of an insane economic environment, unable to see the path toward their own Freedom Fund.

My mission is to show you that Profit is a Rebellion. When you build streamlined, freedom-based systems that support your nervous system, you stop dealing with your money and start directing it. You move from survival mode to the strategic growth required to fund a borderless life—whether that’s in Winnipeg, Baja, or Ecuador.

A Call to Abundance

Healing your relationship with money starts when you realize that your books are morally neutral, but your future is not. It starts when you can stand in your kitchen, blare the music, and know that you are abundant regardless of what a bank statement says.

As part of my rebellion against waste and high costs, I choose to align with partners who value impact. I'm a huge fan of social enterprises like Too Good To Go, which helps rescue high-quality food from being wasted. It’s a win-win-win for your wallet, your health, and the planet.

I’m no longer a victim of my circumstances. I am the architect of my legacy. If you’re ready to rise above your numbers and start leading as a CEO, let’s build your rebellion together. I gotchu!

Always rooting for you,
Laurent
